Diane Downing, M.D.
Physician, Canyon Ranch in Tucson
Dr. Downing is a board certified family physician who obtained both her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Arizona. She also completed fellowship training in Integrative and Alternative Medicine through Dr. Andrew Weil’s program at the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine, also at the University of Arizona. She was a staff physician at Canyon Ranch from 2008-2012. After a brief hiatus from Canyon Ranch, she has returned to pick up where she left off.
Her professional interests include women’s health – with an emphasis on helping women navigate the transition through menopause; preventive medicine, cardiovascular health and integrative medicine. She has training in botanical medicine, nutrition, energy medicine, mind/body therapies and lifestyle modification as approaches to disease management and prevention. She is a certified Reiki practitioner and has training in counter strain osteopathic manipulation. Her favorite activities at the Ranch include a lunchtime power-walk on the two-mile loop or a more pensive stroll through the labyrinth, as well as regular weight training.
Dr. Downing was born and raised in Ohio. She and her husband moved to Arizona 33 years ago. They have three grown children and two rescued greyhounds. Guiding principles in her life are to try to live in the present moment, be aware of the ripple effects one’s words and actions create and as Mahatma Gandhi said “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” She enjoys yoga, golf, hiking, flying kites, as well as following professional hockey – Go Coyotes!
