For Physicians – Amazing Canyon Ranch Experience & CME Credits

You want the best for your patients and for yourself. Now, as a physician, you can take leading-edge Canyon Ranch integrative and preventive care techniques back to your own practice.

The Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits program is available at Canyon Ranch health resorts in Tucson, Arizona, and Lenox, Massachusetts, and at Canyon Ranch Hotel & Spa in Miami Beach. It’s a rare opportunity to not only learn about this healthy living philosophy but experience it yourself

“In most medical schools, physicians aren’t taught about wellness, they’re taught about illness,” says Mary L. Brandt, MD, a pediatric surgeon and Associate Dean of Student Affairs at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Dr. Brandt recently earned CME credits at Canyon Ranch in Tucson by participating in the Life Enhancement Program.® “The experience is unique,” says Dr. Brandt. “You get both information and hands-on experience, which you can use in counseling patients and improving your own health. It’s very valuable.”

The CME program provides physicians with the most current information on topics such as heart health, sleep, nutrition, brain function, longevity and more, while earning AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.™ Sessions are led by a team of Canyon Ranch wellness specialists, including physicians from Johns Hopkins, NYU and other top institutions.

Dr. Brandt says her interest in wellness began as a result of what she learned at Canyon Ranch, and led to preparing multiple handouts on self-care for the students and residents she advises. She notes, “Physicians are altruistic, and in the process of caring for patients, they often neglect their own nutrition and wellness, which can lead to burnout.” The handouts proved so popular that her students talked her into creating a blog, “Wellness is all about small, consistent changes and planning,” she says. “What physicians need most are specific ways to implement these strategies both for themselves and their patients.”

Physicians can earn up to 46 credits at Canyon Ranch in Tucson, up to 26 credits in Lenox, or up to 13 credits at Canyon Ranch Hotel & Spa in Miami Beach. Sessions are in accordance with the Essential Area and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of the University of Arizona College of Medicine at the Arizona Health Sciences Center and Canyon Ranch.
